Lil Hot and nephew Cleve on the mic

ATLANTA, GA, July 25, 2010— Lil Hot Da Money Man, a well-known rapper out of Atlanta, GA, appeared on BeeHiveFM yesterday evening and the announcement was made by Nick Love, program director for BeeHiveFM, that  the Coalition DJs will be sponsoring a fundraising concert on behalf of New Money Ent’s efforts towards raising $100,000 for Lil Hot’s nephew [Cleve]’s colon cancer operation. The show’s hosts ( DJ Big X, DJ X Rated, DJ Funky, and DJ Fernando as well as Comedian Henry Welch) were in full support. The concert will be held on Saturday August 22, 2010 at Club Obsessions and will feature many well known artists that have worked with Lil Hot in the past and who have reached out to say that they will support this cause.

Darrel “Cleve” Johnson was diagnosed with Colon cancer earlier this year, and doctors have indicated that surgery is the best option. However, with no medical insurance, treatment has been nearly nonexistent for this young twenty-six year old man. After learning of his nephew’s diagnosis and seeing his health deteriorate, Lil Hot made it his mission to save Cleves’s life. The news came at a time when Lil Hot was still mourning the death of his own father, who died last year of colon cancer. “This is like going though the same thing all over again. It’s like the nightmare won’t end. This is the source of my insomnia. We’re gonna save Cleve, though, believe that. It’s not even personal, either, so I want [everybody] to help us raise this money no matter how they feel about me. It’s not about me. It’s about saving my nephew’s life. They know I’d do it for them if they needed me to without question”, says Lil Hot.

Several people in the entertainment industry have voiced their willingness to assist in fund-raising efforts. Celeb Status PR, Lil Hot’s Public Relations firm, will be booking the talent for the various fund-raising events as well as organizing the campaign. Assistance from other firms, agencies, media, artists, etc is greatly needed to make this event and the other events for the fundraiser a success.

Artists interested performing for the concert should contact info@celebstatuspr.com immediately to sign up, as well as anyone else who would like to be involved.  Official invites will also be sent out for participation.  Further details will be released in the upcoming weeks by New Money Ent, The Coalition DJs, and Celeb Status PR.

Recently, Kelis sat down with Perez Hilton to talk about a variety of things, including her highly publicized divorce from Nas. When asked by Hilton whether she and the hip-hop legend were on friendly terms, the “Milkshake” singer said, “Sometimes.” She also dismissed talk that the two of them had ever tried to get back together, rumors which were originated by various media outlets almost a year ago. As for the current state of her love life, Kelis revealed that she’s seeing someone, a relationship she described as “going great.” I’m guessing the mystery man, who she disclosed is not a musician, is NFL star Adewale Ogunleye. The eclectic diva has been spotted out and about with the Chicago Bears defensive end as far back as Super Bowl weekend.

Baby bump watch is on high alert after Jay-Z and Beyoncé skipped the Tony Awards after-party for “Fela!.” Although pregnancy rumors have followed them since the beginning of their marriage, the hip-hop power duo really had the Broadway crowd talking when they decided to forgo the post-celebration for the Broadway musical, which won three awards during Sunday night’s ceremony (Jay is one of the production’s co-producers). According to the NY Daily News, “the pure-platinum couple made it to the Tonys, but skipped the raucous soiree at Hudson Terrace, where press roamed free and furtive cigarette-smoking took place – conditions a pregnant superstar would want to avoid.” In the last few weeks, Bey has also been snapped by shutterbugs in loose fitting t-shirts and blouses looking as if she were trying to conceal her belly. When asked by the Daily News for comment, the R&B superstar’s PR team issued a routine, “There is no comment on our client’s private life.” Well, they didn’t say no.

Hip-hop’s current golden boy and Degrassi High alum Drake was recently featured in the cover story of Paper Magazine just in time for the release of his official debut album, Thank Me Later. Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the last year, the much ballyhooed album hits stores everywhere tomorrow (June 15). I really hope it lives up to all the hype because you people have damn near talked me into an early grave about Wheelchair Jimmy and his damn album…

As we approach the 1-year anniversary of the death of Michael Jackson (June 25), the Apollo Theater will honor him at their annual spring benefit concert tonight (June 14) alongside of other honorees Aretha Franklin, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. The King of Pop’s good friend, Chris Tucker, will accept his award on behalf of the Jackson family. Although Tucker was not one of the speakers at Jackson’s memorial service, the Rush Hour actor is expected to give a speech when he accepts the award tonight.

Over the last few weeks, the beef between Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj has somewhat mystified hip-hop fans on both sides. To Nicki’s credit, she hasn’t said too much in response, but the Queen Bee isn’t showing any mercy with her assault against the Young Money femcee. Recently, she spoke to thisis50.com and aired out her grievances against Nicki, Diddy (who’s support of Nicki has her bent out of shape), Faith Evans, Drake, and a few others. Check out the 3-part interview, and then check out the link below to a recent interview with Diddy during which he responds to all the madness:

In the video below, Lil Kim appears to confirm what I told you in a previous post– she’s signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Filmed during the Baltimore, MD stop of her current tour, in the video the Queen Bee speaks on her gripes with Nicki Minaj alongside of fellow Nicki Minaj nemesis Keys. Towards the end of the video, she throws up the Roc sign and says:

“We Roc’n out…R-O-C-love baby!”

Sean “Diddy” Combs on why he probably won’t be involved in his “Get Him to the Greek” costar Russell Brand’s last night as a single man (he’s engaged to marry pop star Katy Perry):

“I’m not his best man but if I get invited, I’ll be there.

“I kind of get banned from stuff like that before the wedding. The wives always say ’stay away from Puffy’.” (The Sun)

Damn right Diddy, I love you to death, but there’s no way in hell I’d let you arrange my fiancé’s bachelor party (or even attend it for that matter). You got Nicki Minaj and Cassie running around here holding hands at Summer Jam and s*it – my mama ain’t raise no fool!!!!

Do you guys realize Lil Wayne is still recording music while in prison??? The hip-hop star has a verse on a song called “Light It Up” with Drake and Jay-Z which will be on Drizzy’s forthcoming album Thank Me Later. Wayne recorded his part over the phone from inside the walls of Rikers Island where he’s currently serving a year long prison sentence on weapons possession charges. No disrespect to the late, great James Brown, but Wayne just maybe this generation’s “hardest working man in show business.” The much hyped Thank Me Later finally hits shelves everywhere on Tuesday, June 15.

After months of being almost as elusive as Lauryn Hill, Kanye West is set to make his return during the 2010 BET Awards. Reportedly, the controversial hip-hop star, who’s laid low since the notorious Taylor Swift VMAs incident, will perform “Power,” the first single off his upcoming LP Good Ass Job, during the show which airs June 27th at 8pm. Now look, I may have been very vocal in my displeasure with Kanye after he bumrushed the stage and gave us that now infamous shrug at the VMAs, but that was damn near a year ago, and I’m ready for dude to get back to blessing us with classics like “Flashing Lights.” Besides, who the hell else is there in hip-hop for us to get excited about (insert Kanye shrug here, LOL!!!)???
